Dry Hair? Vegetable Glycerin to the Rescue!

Most curly haired folks have issues with their hair being dry, especially when you add coloring, living in a dry climate and a whole other myriad of issues that lead to dry hair.  Well one of my helpers to combat dryness is vegetable glycerin. Vegetable glycerin is a carbohydrate derived from plant oils and can be used as a sweetener or in cosmetic products. Now to the part that we really care about, vegetable glycerin is a humectant making it a great conditioner because it helps to moisturize this is why you find this ingredient in so many lotions and conditioners.  I love adding a teaspoon (a little goes a long way) in a 4oz. bottle with a 1/2 water 1/2 aloe vera juice combo add some essential oils. Makes a  refreshing hydrating spritz for my hair. You can find Vegetable glycerin at Whole Foods, GNC, health food stores and on Amazon, I'm sure there are boatloads of other places too but this is where I've seen it.  So if your hair is taking a beating in the summer sun try adding this ingredient to the mix! Enjoy!

  1. Glycerin has many applications. Some common applications are arts & crafts, e-cig, tobacco flavorings, commercial sprinkler systems antifreeze, peristaltic pump lubricant, bubble making, worm farm food, synthetic ice making, cosmetic, antifreeze, and sweetener substitute.
